Windows 10 End of Support: What your business should know

Microsoft

If you have devices in your business that are still running Windows 10, it’s time to create a plan so you can upgrade. Compatibility and vulnerability issues are on the horizon, and you want to act before it’s too late!

Windows 10 is scheduled to reach its end of support (also referred to as end of life) on October 14, 2025. Let’s talk about what that means and why it’s better to upgrade sooner rather than later.

What does end of support mean?

End of support means the end of technical support and security updates for Windows 10. It will no longer receive free software updates or security fixes, leaving your devices vulnerable to cyberattacks and slowed functionality.

When should I upgrade my devices?

You should upgrade your computers as soon as possible! While October 2025 might seem like a long way away, it still leaves you time to plan, budget and work out any technical details with your MSP or IT department so your refresh can go smoothly.

Regardless of operating systems reaching end of support, it’s also essential to upgrade your devices every three to five years. This industry standard ensures your devices are efficient, secure and serviceable.

Updating Existing Devices

Depending on the type of PC you have, it may be Windows 11 compatible. We do not recommend updating any device operating systems in your organization without proper input, approval and assistance from your IT partner.

Check out our article from 2021, when Windows 11 was released.

While your device may technically be compatible with Windows 11, you will want the proper expertise to ensure that all your business applications are compatible and that updating won’t drastically slow down your device. If anything, upgrading your Windows 10 device to Windows 11 is only a temporary fix. You should still plan to upgrade the devices themselves.

Talk with your MSP or IT Department

Don’t hesitate to contact your MSP or IT department and start the conversation about upgrading your computers. They should already be planning for this lifecycle event. But give us a call if you need an IT partner to help you develop a plan that aligns with your business goals and keeps your technology up and running.
